Theaterduo Mini & Maxi announces retirement
The 69-year-old Peter de Jong (Maxi) and the 70-year-old Karel de Rooij (Mini) have their farewell as theaterduo Mini & Maxi have been announced. The last show is on may 13.
“You can’t be forever as Mini & Maxi on stage. We vóelen that this is the last time. There is no other program more. We are no longer going to something new. Certainly not in this form, with all the visual, physical and musical work”, says De Rooij in conversation with The Telegraph.
The duo has been working for fifty years together, but with a long break in between. Mini and Maxi stopped in 2004, namely abruptly because of a double neck-hernia of The Young after the two 35 year (international) created a furor with wordless performances.
That Mini & Maxi are now final stops does not mean, however, that De Jong and De Rooij also stop. The two still have plenty of challenges ahead. “There is still so much to us”, says De Rooij.
“We also hope to have a lot of work to do. So we have a request from the National Ballet to be like in 2010 again Don Quixote. Peter in the skin of Don Quixote, and I in that of Sancho Panza. Then again we are a duo, yes, but now in a fairy-tale ballet. But for both, the following applies: if the a something offered, then you should do it. That we have previously done.”
