LOS ANGELES – the Police try to learn what motivated a partner in a law firm to shoot two of his colleagues before the gun on himself.
A SWAT team arrived in an office building in Long Beach on Friday to find the shooter and one victim dead, and learned that the second victim had gone to a hospital, police Sgt. Brad Johnson said at a press conference.
The Los Angeles coroner’s office identified the victim on Saturday as a Large Longer, 75, of Rolling Hills and the suspected shooter as John Mendoza, 58, of Redondo Beach.
A friend told the Long Beach Press-Telegram that the wounded man was another partner in the company, Ronald Beck, who was driven to the hospital by his son.
According to the police, the injured man was in a stable condition late Friday night.
Authorities also excluded from the photograph on the actions of a shooter targeting as many people as possible.
“This incident was workplace violence,” Johnson said.
Basieleus Zeno, who recorded video of employees running from the building, told KCBS-TV that he heard screaming, but thought they were from the workers and enjoy a holiday party at the office.
But it was clear that the half-dozen workers streaming of the office, which is located in the well-to-do neighborhood of Bixby Knolls, were on the flight.
“The woman said, ‘They’re shooting inside. They shooting inside,” Zeno said.
Beck ran the day-to-day operations at the law firm of Perona, Langer, Beck, Serbin, Mendoza and Harrison. He was also the managing partner of the Larry H. Parker law firm worked with Perona and Longer. Beck and Parker have appeared in the well-known Southern California tv commercials for Parker the company that connect with Parker promising: “We fight for you!”
Langer is the senior managing partner of both companies.
“This man is the most caring, sincere man that I probably ever met,” old friend Jim Hall told the Press-Telegram. “He had a heart of gold and really cared for everyone who works for the company and considers them as members of his family. He certainly has not earned it.”
According to Perona, Langer company’s website, Mendoza was a workers ‘ compensation lawyer who had worked thousands of accidents cases in the past 20 years and was a regular guest on local television and radio stations.
The office is about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles in Long Beach, a city of about 460,000 people.
