Virginia authorities are searching for a U.S. Marine soldier from Camp Lejeune, in connection with the killing of a man by his mother’s boyfriend.

Michael Brown, 22, was being sought in the shooting death of a 54-year-old Rodney Brown and Hardy, on Saturday afternoon, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the suspect was a Marine, a combat engineer stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, WFXR-TV reported on Sunday. She said Brown went AWOL Feb. 18.

The sheriff’s office issued a warning Saturday, urging everyone that comes in contact with the Browns “have to be very careful and report it to the local police department immediately by calling 911.”

Hardy, a resident, Kenneth Meador told us WFXR he heard the sound of the sirens to respond to neighbor Rodney Brown’s home, but you don’t think anything of it.

“When I first heard that there would be a record, I don’t even have to think about it, Rodney, because I have known Rodney. It was here that he was brought up, I’d do it, too. We have been friends and neighbors,” said Meador. “Rodney is a super nice guy. He was very polite, worked very hard. Just a great guy.”

Deputies are not revealing a possible motive for the shooting.
