A Tennessee student has been charged in the shooting death of a fellow student in a dorm room, police said Wednesday night.

George Wells, Jr. 18 years old, a student at Tennessee State University (TSU), was arrested on Wednesday and charged with reckless homicide in connection with the fatal shooting death of Rickey Scott, 19, from Ohio, on Sunday morning, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Police said the shooting happened around 11 a.m. on Sunday, Watson Hall, where the students lived.

The Metro police department said that the department was about two hours later, the officers reported that Scott has been transferred from one field hospital to another, with a critical gunshot wound to his torso.

The researchers said, the wound was found during a survey in the first hospital for what was supposed to be a non-painful medical condition. Police said Scott was pronounced dead on Sunday afternoon in the hospital.

Detectives initially interviewed the Wells on the Sunday, and police said the circumstances of the shooting remained unclear, then. During a second interview on Wednesday, police said Wells admitted he took what he thought was a pellet gun on campus; the treatment, in Scott’s dorm room, he pulled the trigger.

Police said Wells was approved and that he knew that the weapon had been discharged, and that Scott was hurt. The police said that the weapon had not been located.

Wells is being held on $45,000 bond.
