The call function is one of a series of automated driving features that Musk has promised customers who paid $6,000 for the optional “Full-Drive” packages of hardware and software.

The automated driving features are one way that Tesla is hoping to stay ahead of the traditional manufacturers, who are more conservative on how to enable vehicles to operate without drivers.
