It sounds like it’s straight out of science fiction, but it is firmly planted in reality.

The Pentagon has confirmed that it is testing the lasers, which are able to be able to send sms messages through glass, and to travel over long distances.

Known as The Laser-Induced Plasma Effect in the program, the initiative is part of the Joint Non-lethal Weapons Directorate, program, according to a new report in the army Times.

Fox News has reached out to the Pentagon with a request to comment for this story.

According to the video, the laser would fire a ball of plasma, while the other laser is, it takes the plasma, and then into sound waves. If it’s done right, it could imitate the human voice, the chief scientist, Dave Law, told the news outlet.

All along the line, the Pentagon is hoping to take the technology and use it for military operations, including the continuous flash-bang grenade, which produces a short, continuous bursts of blinding light and deafening sound.

The laser can heat a target’s skin to an uncomfortable level, and it won’t burn, or even give a command such as “Stop, or we’ll be forced to fire upon you,” the report added.

Ouch.
