Archaeologists in Israel and the Golan Heights, they have discovered an ancient city gate from the time of King David.

The discovery was made during an archaeological excavation in the ancient city of Bethsaida. “There aren’t too many historic finds date back to the reign of King David,” Rami Arav, an associate professor at the University of Nebraska and the Bethsaida excavation project director, told Fox News by e-mail. “This is certainly an important contribution to the understanding of the biblical archaeology, and biblical studies.”

Arav explained that Bethsaida was founded in the 11th century, B. c., when a pre-planned city and the capital of the Biblical kingdom of Geshur. The city incorporated place, in the barn, the walls of the city, to the gate of the city, a place at the top of the city gate and stone courtyard in front of the gate,” he said.

The city was destroyed in 920 B. c., “as it was in the time of King David, and as the Bible tells us that King David married Maacah, daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur, it is reasonable to expect that King David was walking on those cobble-stoned when he visited the city,” Arav added.

An old stone, or monumental slab, was found next to the gate of the tower. The stone depicts the Moon god worshipped by the ancient Armenian people.

Arav explained that the discoveries were made during the 32nd season of the excavations of the ancient city. The project was initially funded by Israel’s University of Haifa, the University of Nebraska at Omaha. It is now co-sponsored by the Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem.

The Jerusalem Post reports that a port was discovered at the site of last year’s, probably dating from the First Temple period, when the city was known as the Iron.

In a separate project, in the past year, archaeologists in Israel discovered an ancient site that may offer you a new understanding of the biblical kingdom of David and Solomon. It is a kingdom that is described in the Hebrew Bible, but it has long divided historians.

While some experts believe that it existed as early as the 10th century B. c., while others have questioned its existence, citing a lack of evidence of the royal building in the centre of the region, where the kingdom is said to have taken place.

In another case, soldiers at a paratrooper base in the South of Israel have recently discovered a Biblical-era watchtower.

The tower, which dates back to the 8th century B. C., it has been revealed during recent excavations by the Israel Defense Forces troops under the command of the Israel Antiquities Authority.
