The Off-duty Missouri police officer, was killed in Illinois crash

An off-duty Missouri police officer, was killed when he was involved in a three-car crash in Illinois last Thursday, police said.

Off-duty Pc. Louis County police officer James “Mitch” Ellis, Jr. 49, who had been with the department for eight years.

Ellis, of Hecker, Ill., which is about 40 minutes away from the Pc. In St. Louis, Mo., it was on the way home from work when the crash happened, according to Fox 2 Now.

The crash happened at about 11:00 a.m. Thursday on Route 159, just north of Hecker, in accordance with the State of Illinois and the Police (ISP).

The Hyundai Sonata was passing a semi-truck in a northerly direction when it slammed into a Dodge Caravan head-on, the ISP said, adding that the Hyundai then spun back into the north lane and was struck by a semi-truck.

The victim, the driver of the Truck, and the 24-year-old Ariah Claybrone, of Memphis, Tenn., the passenger in the Hyundai, were both pronounced dead after they were transported to a local hospital, according to ISP. The driver of the Hyundai, 23-year-old Dale Claybrone, Jr., of Chicago, and was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, according to police. The 50-year-old driver of the semi truck and refused medical treatment, the police added.

The victim is a member of the California. Louis County Police department in January of 2011, according to a news release from the department. Before that, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1992 to 1996.

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said the Victim was forced to go back to the Marines after the events of September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to the tv channel, added that he was in the Marine Corps Reserves from 2001 to 2005 and deployed to Iraq as a squad leader, in may 2004.

In August 2012, the Victim received a life saving Award for performing CPR on an unresponsive man, according to the California. Louis County Police Department press release.

“On behalf of the entire Department, I would like to express our sadness and condolences over the tragic death of the Officer, Mitch is the Victim. Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to his family and friends,” Belmar said.

Officer Ellis was a dedicated police officer, a loyal friend and a devoted family man. We are very proud to have worked with him and to have him as a part of our family.”

Ellis leaves a wife and five children.

For the BackStoppers, an organization that provides financial assistance and support to the spouses and children of all police officers and firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty, announced on Monday that the organization has been providing assistance to the Victim’s family.

Other local police departments, including those of the Wentzville Police Department, which is about 50 minutes from the St. In st. Louis, immediately offered condolences.

The department tweeted on Friday, “The Wentzville Police department send our deepest condolences to the @stlcountypd for the loss of Officer James “Mitch” Ellis, Jr. early in the morning. Your business and all of the family members who are affected are in our thoughts and prayers.”

The possible charges in the case are still being investigated, according to the ISP.
