The number of killed journalists, the lowest since 2003, due to a safer Middle East

In the last year, and 49 journalists have been killed. This is the lowest number in the sixteen year period of time. Compared to the end of 2018 is going to be the a drop of 44 per cent, reports Reporters Without Borders (RSF) on Tuesday.

The primary moordcijfer is, according to RSF due to a decrease in the number of journalists in conflict zones. As such, it was reporting in the conflict zones in Syria, Yemen, and Afghanistan, this year is a lot less lethal than it is in 2018. 17 journalists in these countries were this year killed compared to only 34 a year earlier.

Over the past twenty years, an average of eighty journalists have been murdered. By 2018, 63 journalists were killed.

Even though there has been a decline, it continues, journalism is a dangerous profession, according to RSF. For example, at this point in time, 389 journalists are stuck in the prison, and were 57 journalists being held hostage. Nearly half of the imprisoned journalists are caught in China, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.

In addition, the number of journalists in the vredeslanden as compared to previous years. For example, in Mexico, as a year earlier, ten journalists have been murdered in 2019. In total, Latin America, fourteen journalists have to be through violence, as much as it does in the Middle East and so on.

Last year even a greater number of journalists in the vredesgebieden (59%) than in conflict areas (41 per cent) had been murdered.
