The New Church shows the ancient artwork of El Greco
The centuries-old work of art Pentecostés El Greco is under police escort this week in The New Church in Amsterdam arrived. Thursday morning was the box in which the cloth out of 1600 is transported with the utmost care, opened.
The painting is the sixth in the series of The Masterpiece, which is always a very special work of art is displayed.
El Greco’s Pentecostés (Pentecost) belongs to the collection of the famous Museo del Prado in Madrid. On the canvas is to see how the Holy Spirit in flames descends upon Mary and the apostles, based on the Pinksterverhaal from the New Testament.
According to Cathelijne Broers, director of The New Church, it is not easy, this kind of masterpieces to confiscate. “But the museumdirecties give a work of art to be a day outside the museum in a church to be able to shine.”
The cloth is from Saturday, seven weeks to see. The canvas of El Greco is the oldest in the series. Previously, were The Holy Family by Rembrandt, Andy warhol’s The Last Supper and Marc Chagalls Calvary.
