The netherlands at EU-countries with least obesitaspatiënten
The netherlands has the second lowest percentage of obesitaspatiënten of the European Union. 13.3 percent of the population is suffering with extreme obesity.
Only in Romania and Italy is obesity less common: respectively 9.4 percent and 10.7 percent of the population suffers from it. Malta is at the top of the list. The island compares with 26 percent obesitaspatiënten over numbers two and three Latvia and Hungary.

In total, almost one in six inhabitants of the EU obesity (15,9 percent). The number of persons with overweight – including obesity – is more than half (51,6 percent overweight).
The researchers found that the percentage of obesitaspatiënten considerably differs by population group. So are the low-skilled more often obese (nearly 20 percent) than people with a higher education.
Also age plays a role. The older the age group, the higher the obesitaspercentage (with the exception of the group of 74 years of age and older). So 22 percent of the 65 – to-74 year olds obese.
