TEMPLE CITY, Calif. – The Latest on a shooting outside a suburban Los Angeles County sheriff’s station (local times):
Officials say a man opened fire on Los Angeles police officers in the parking lot of their station after they tried to arrest him on a felony warrant.
Sheriff officials say in a statement Monday afternoon that the 47-year-old man was wanted for a felony sex crime.
They say the man walked into the sheriff’s station in Temple City, about 15 km from the centre of Los Angeles, and told a deputy he wanted to register as a sex offender.
The statement says the man ran out of the station, and when deputies tried to take him into custody.
Officials say the deputies chased him outside and the guy jumped in his car and grabbed a shotgun. A gunfight then ensued.
After a brief confrontation, the man was found dead in his car. The researchers believe that the man took his own life.
Authorities say a man who opened fire at the Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in the parking lot of a sheriff’s station had tried to register as a sex offender minutes before the shooting.
Sheriff Jim McDonnell says the delegates was of the opinion that there is something wrong” when the 47-year-old walked into the sheriff’s station in Temple City on Monday morning.
McDonnell says the deputies followed the man to the parking lot, and he opened fire on them. McDonnell says the man jumped into his SUV, and that in a gunbattle with deputies from his car.
A SWAT team arrived approximately 20 minutes later and found the dead man in the car.
The authorities believe that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
His name was not immediately released.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida says the suspect was found dead early Monday morning after a SWAT team approached a vehicle in the Temple City station. She could not immediately provide further information.
Video from news helicopters showed deputies taking cover behind the patrol vehicles with their guns pointed at a car in the parking lot.
Authorities say the shots were fired at the station around 7:15 pm Monday. She said sheriff’s personnel were concerned the suspect to neutralize the threat.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says someone fire shots in the suburb of Temple City station and its staff.
A department statement says the Temple of the broadcaster, “that the defendant for neutralizing the threat”, but does not say specifically what action was taken early Monday.
A sheriff’s SWAT team is in charge of the response.
