HOUSTON – The Latest on a man arrested in a hotel in Houston with multiple weapons in his room (local times):
Houston police say they do not believe that a drunk man was arrested for having multiple weapons in his hotel room with the intention to use the weapons.
Investigators say security officers called the police after the man became belligerent and refused to leave when the bar is in the heart of downtown Houston, the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The hotel is the annual New Year’s Eve party is one of the largest.
Police say responding officers with a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol in the man-room, plus ammunition. He was arrested for the unlawful carrying of a weapon and trespassing.
Police spokesman Victor Senties says the man later told investigators he had brought the guns in his room in his truck because he doesn’t want them stolen. He said that his truck was parked in the garage of the hotel.
Senties said investigators do not believe that the man intended to use the weapons or cause any kind of problem.”

The police said the man is imprisoned. His name is not released yet.
Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted that the situation was “contained” and the authorities are not aware of the specific threats to the city.
A police spokesman said Sunday afternoon that the researchers could not speculate about the man’s intention.
