The Latest: New York man charged in fatal parking space dispute

A New York man faced a murder charge after a dispute escalated into gunfire in Florida.

An arrest report says the 19-year-old Jeffery Alexander of Brooklyn, New York, was riding in a BMW attempting to parallel park late Sunday on Miami Beach’s popular Ocean Drive.

The police said the BMW hit a parked Ferrari a couple of times for the Buick owner walked in with a friend.

The report says that the BMW driver gave a gun to Alexander, who fired as the car drove out of the parking lot.

The Buick owner was shot in the leg. Thirty-year-old Ladarian Tyrell Phillips of Homestead, Florida, was fatally shot in the back.

Alexander was held without bond Monday on a Miami-Dade County jail on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder. Jail records didn’t show whether he had a lawyer.

Two men were fatally shot after an argument over a parking space in a crowded Florida tourist district.

Miami Beach Police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez says that two of Miami-Dade County men sustained gunshot wounds in the dispute late Sunday along a popular stretch of Ocean Drive. A victim died in a hospital.

Rodriguez says a car fleeing from the scene crashed into two police cars several blocks away, but not completely stop until two officers fired.

A suspect in the car was shot and died in a hospital. Three other suspects in the car were arrested.

Rodriguez says that the researchers believe they have identified the shooter from a parking dispute, and the costs will be requested.

Miami-Dade Police are investigating the shooting, in which the two Miami Beach officers. Both were placed on administrative leave.
