THOUSAND OAKS, California. – The Latest on a fatal shooting at a Southern California mall (all times are local):
Authorities say a man shot and killed someone at a Southern California mall and then turned the gun on himself.
Ventura County fire Capt. Steve Swindle says the shooter was injured Saturday and taken to a hospital.
Scams say that there is no threat to the public, but the fire department opened a nearby fire station as a safety zone for shoppers.
The shooting took place at The Oaks mall in the city of Thousand Oaks, about 40 miles (64 km) west of Los Angeles.
Jeffrey Simpson was in a department store on a Southern California shopping mall when suddenly in the lock.
The 17-year-old says that he is buying a pair of pants at Nordstrom on Saturday afternoon, when an announcement came over the intercom that there was a threat outside and all the doors would be locked.
Simpson, who was with his mother, says he heard no shots but saw emergency vehicles outside. He says that they are both a bit shaken and are in the shop for an hour.
Authorities say one person was killed and one wounded, but there are no outstanding suspects.
Simpson says that he can’t believe that something like this happened just a few minutes from his house.

The county fire department, says the victim, who was injured in The Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks, California, was taken to a hospital.
The authorities are establishing a safety zone on the other side of the street.
