Authorities say a man arrested after a fire that burned Los Angeles construction site, damaged adjacent structures, and a firefighter injured.

The Los Angeles Fire department says the 20-year-old Benicio Garcia is arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the Monday morning blaze.

The fire broke out around 6 a.m. in the east of Hollywood, where two buildings were in the wood frame stage of construction.

Authorities said the fire damaged the occupied apartment building and a single-family home around the construction site. Twenty people were displaced from their homes.

A firefighter was struck by falling debris and taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Fire officials say Garcia is held on $ 75,000 bail. It was not immediately clear whether he had a lawyer who could comment.

Fire Capt. Erik Scott tells KTTV arson investigators quickly investigated the scene early Monday and a person of interest is detained for questioning.

The person is only described as an adult male.

The fire broke around 6 a.m. in an east Hollywood site where two apartment buildings were in the wood frame stage of construction.

Flames damaged occupied apartment complex on one side of the fire and a single-family home on the other side.

Twenty people were displaced from their homes and are assisted by the American Red Cross.

A different structure of the fire took place about a block away and it is also being investigated.

Twenty people have been displaced by a fire that burned Los Angeles construction site, damaged adjacent structures, and a firefighter injured.

It burned bright in the beginning of the Monday in the wood framing of an east Hollywood apartment complex under construction and blew out windows in a neighbouring multi-story apartment building and damaged a single-family home on the other side of the eruption.

The Fire department says 10 adults and 10 children have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Public information officer Erik Scott says the injured firefighter was struck by falling debris. The department says she was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and is in good condition.
