CHICAGO – The Latest on the trial of a Chicago police officer in the shooting death of the black teen Laquan McDonald (all times are local):

A Spanish mother of three young children, has been selected to sit on the jury in the case of a Chicago police officer charged with murder in the 2014 shooting death of black teen Laquan McDonald.

The woman was one of the first five potential jurors who were questioned on Monday morning by prosecutors and lawyers of Jason Van Dijk. The other four were fired, including a man who looked to Van Dijk and said that he could not put aside what he knows about the intake and be honest to the officer.

A woman was dismissed after she told lawyers for anyone who has seen the now famous dashcam video of van Dijk firing 16 photos on the teenager, it is hard to believe that McDonald was not killed.

About 200 people are part of the jury pool and the questioning of the potential jurors is expected to take several days.

Lawyers are starting to question possible jurors in the trial of a Chicago police officer charged with first-degree murder in the 2014 shooting death of black teen Laquan McDonald.

The first prospective juror was called Monday morning to answer questions from the prosecutors and the defense lawyers in the trial of Jason Van Dijk. A pool of about 200 potential jurors completed questionnaires last week, but this is the first opportunity for lawyers to talk with them.

A problem, they will certainly be asked about the extensive media coverage the shooting has received since the release of the dashcam video of van Dijk shoot teen 16 times.

Van Dijk advocates say they do not believe that he has a fair trial in Chicago and want to be moved out of the city. The judge says that he wants to see how the selection of the jury for making a decision.
