A Chicago man has been arrested after his 5-year-old son, who was shot in the face in a 2016 drive-by shooting, accidentally shot himself in the hand with the man the gun.
Chicago police said late Wednesday the 25-year-old Kevin Collins has been charged with felony gun counts, including possession of a firearm with a serial number that is unreadable. He is also facing felony charges of causing a child in danger.
The police says Kavan Collins shot himself Tuesday night after finding a loaded, uncased gun in a bedroom of a home on the city’s South side.
They say that Kevin Collins is a convicted criminal that the gun is illegal.
Last year, the boy was walking with his mother and others when a bullet fired from a vehicle struck him in the jaw.

He says the father will probably be charged with the felony counts in connection with the gun and child in danger. The police has not yet released the name of the father.
