HONOLULU – The Last of a canister of pepper spray go off in a Hawaiian Airlines flight. (all times are local):
A man says that he tried to nap on board a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Oakland, California, to Maui, but was woken up by someone having a coughing fit.
Nicholas Andrade, says he saw everyone around him was coughing and flight attendants and passengers were on their faces.
He says flight attendants told the passengers to go back to the back of the plane, where the air is not affected. He Later learned can of pepper spray had exploded on the plane.
He says about 40 people stood in the back of the plane for about 30 minutes.
Hawaiian Airlines spokesman Alex Da Silva says the 12 passengers and three flight attendants were treated for respiratory problems and released after the plane landed in Kahului on Friday.
The police are investigating.
Hawaiian Airlines says a can of pepper spray went up in a plane on the way from Oakland, California, to Maui, which is a urgent help for different people on board.
Airline spokesman Alex Da Silva says the 12 passengers and three flight attendants were treated for respiratory problems and released Friday.
He says in a statement that a passenger illegally brought the pepper spray on the plane with 256 passengers and 10 crew members, but it appears that the release was accidental.
Hawaii Department of Transportation spokesman Tim Sakahara said about 30 people complained of being affected by the disorder, but no one was taken to the hospital.
The airline says that the flight was delayed earlier Friday after a teenager in Oakland sent a picture of a fake crime scene to the mobile phones of the other passengers.
