RICHARDSON, Texas – The Latest on the fatal shooting of a police officer and another person in a suburb of Dallas (all times are local):
Researchers say that the second person killed in a shooting that fatally injured a Texas police officer lived in the apartment where the suspect barricaded himself during an hour-long stand-off.
The officer was shot in the neck as a Richardson police responded to a disturbance call in an apartment complex late Wednesday in the suburb of Dallas. The officer died later in a hospital.
Police say the shooting led to a confrontation with the suspect, who randomly fired a weapon in the night. He was eventually taken into custody.
The police Thursday told in the second person, who was murdered the 30-year-old Rene Gamez.
Plano police spokesman David Tilley says Gamez lived in the apartment. He says that the suspected shooter, and Gamez knew each other, but the extent of their relationship was not immediately clear.
The police have not released the names of the official who is deceased or the suspect.

Police say the incident began around 7 a.m. Wednesday when the driver control over a report of a disturbance in the apartment complex in Richardson, Texas. The officer was taken to a hospital in nearby Plano. About three hours later, Richardson police reported that he had died.
Richardson police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Perlich (PUR’-lihk) said that the condition of the injured is not immediately known.
Perlich said the suspect remained in the apartment and that the officers had the individual cornered.
