The short film ‘The Jungle Knows You Better Than You Do” by the Belgian-Colombian director Juanita Onzaga has the Special Prize of the International Jury of Generation 14plus won at the Berlin film Festival. It reports the Flemish Audiovisual Fund (FAV).
Onzaga’s docu-drama is located in Colombia. She follows her brother, while she was in the mysterious landscapes in search of the spirit of their deceased father. That journey leads them from Bogota to the Colombian jungle. The film is a graduation project at the Brussels film school LUCA campus Sint-Lukas. In Berlin was the movie in world premiere.
Onzaga will get the Special Prize of the Jury for Best Short film because of its “hybrid approach of an autobiographical story”. “The movie drifts between the present and the past, and knows in an intuitive way, a figure in the picture that are close to the filmmaker himself,” said the report.
The competition Generation 14plus, there is a section that is aimed at children and young people. The Special Prize of the Jury is an amount of 2,500 euros.
Incidentally, this is the second Belgian success in Berlin. Previously had ‘InSyriated’, a feature film by Philippe Van Leeuw, the “Europa Cinemas Label” award.
