Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin says that he exposed his children to chicken pox so they would catch the highly contagious disease and become immune during a Tuesday interview at the Bowling Green radio station WKCT, (Associated Press)
Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin said on Tuesday that he was exposed intentionally, his nine children to chicken pox instead of vaccinating them, the actions that follow reports of an outbreak of infectious disease, to a Roman Catholic school in the Northern part of the state.
“Every single one of my children had the chicken pox,” Bevin said, Bowling Green radio station WKCT. “You got the chicken pox on purpose, because we have a neighbor who had it and I went and made sure that each of my children was exposed to him, and they got it. They had it as children. They were unhappy for a few days, and they all turned out fine.”
Bevin said he could not believe that vaccinations should be mandated by the government.

“If you smallpox worried about your child wind or what to vaccinate your child,” the Governor said. “But for some people and for some parents, for some reason, you decide otherwise. This is America. Should not force the Federal government to the people. You are not just.”

But medical experts called Bevin actions uncertain.
“We no longer live in the 17th century”, Dr. Robert Jacobson, a pediatrician and expert on vaccinations and children’s diseases at the Mayo clinic in Minnesota, told the Louisville Courier-Journal. “I really recommend to my parents that they vaccinate their children that they do it in a timely manner, and you realize that you are doing the right thing for their children.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends against intentionally available the disease of children-including hosting chickenpox parties.
“Chickenpox can be serious and can website to serious complications and death, even in healthy children,” says the CDC.
In response to Bevin’s comment that Kentucky Democratic party, the Republican claimed that his position on vaccination for hepatitis A that killed, 44 people in the state, the paper reported.

“Kentucky is currently experiencing the worst outbreak of Hepatitis A in the country. It is a large risk to public health at this point. The last thing we need, is not suggesting the Governor Bevin to the fact that the vaccination is important,” KDP spokesperson Marisa McNee said the paper in an E-Mail. “Governor Bevin to soothe the public, he supports the recommendation of the entire medical profession with regard to the control of an outbreak of Hepatitis-A-immunization.”
The state requires children entering kindergarten to vaccination for chicken pox, but the parents can try to religious exceptions. Bevin’s comments come as the suffering of Our lady of the assumption Catholic Church & Academy high school in Walton 32 reported chicken pox cases.
