Suppliers of conversietherapieën will be fined up to 30,000 euros. Also, they risk a year in prison.
In addition to the provision of conversietherapieën the implementation and resale of these rights is prohibited.
The German minister of Health, Jens Spahn, stresses that homosexuality is not a disease. According to him, the treatment can lead to serious physical and mental suffering. “It’s okay to be who you are,” says Spahn.
It’s not going to be a total ban. Conversietherapieën to a minor will in no case be allowed. Conversietherapieën people are only banned if it is a forced treatment.
According to an estimate by the ministry of Health in Germany, every year about a thousand such operations are performed.
The ban is probably going to be mid-2020.
