The fire brigade is responding to reports of a strange smell out of the box, at the Oakland International Airport

Four people were taken to local hospitals by the Oakland Fire department after an unknown substance began to give of a strange smell at the Oakland International Airport on Tuesday morning.

An item in a small cardboard box that was used on one of the airline’s ticket counters for passengers to remove items that are prohibited to go out by the TSA, such as bottled water, cans and other contraband, supposedly, began to emit a strange odor, a spokesman for the airport said on Fox News. The smell will be asked to enter the airport, call the fire department, at about 9:15 pm

There was no effect on the operation of the airport, and no injuries were reported, though four people were taken to a local hospital for a routine check-up, the spokesman said.

Hazmat crews responded to the airport, NBC Bay Area reported.
