The Bolshoi theatre in Moscow cancels ballet about Nureyev unexpectedly
The Bolshoi theatre in Moscow, the world premiere of a grand ballet on the world-famous Russian dancer Rudolf Nureyev unexpectedly delayed. The theatre gives Monday a declaration for the cancellation of the piece.
The premiere of the ballet about Rudolf Nureyev, one of the first Soviet artists who broke through in the West, was planned on July 11. But Saturday showed the Bolshoi theatre know that the ballet won’t continue to do so.
The reason for this is the theatre not yet given. According to director Kirill Serebrennikov was the decision of the theatre itself and not of any other party.
The director was in may have picked up due to potential involvement in fraud with state budgets.
His house and office were examined. Ultimately, Serebrennikov released, but were two of his colleagues were arrested. In the artistic circles has this to protests, guided, report Russian media.
The ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev is known as a cultural icon, but was also controversial because of his homosexuality. From 1958 to 1961 he danced with the Kirov Ballet in St Petersburg. After a gig in Paris, asked the dancer for political asylum in France. Eventually died in the Nureyev of the consequences of aids.
