35 percent of the backpackers connect without health insurance when they leave. Not a good idea, according to a study from the London-based company Bought By Many that insurance with compare.

They took ten popular backpackerbestemmingen under the microscope and compared not only the cost but also the quality of the medical facilities.

You look only at the medical costs, the USA as the worst out of the bus, with an average price for a treatment of almost 1200 euro. Sri Lanka is 205 euros the cheapest.

But of course, not only the cost but also the quality is important. You have to hold into account both the cost and the quality, then it’s best to get sick in New Zealand. Austria and Costa Rica came respectively second and third from the bus.

In India you are the worst off as regards the price/quality ratio of the medical care. (MS)
