Of Oxford’s finest about malle metalfiguren to a very strange Ghanaian Londoner: these ten artists gave Rock Werchter 2017 the most color.

RADIOHEAD

‘When someone asks when Radiohead were at their best, I shall say Rock Werchter 2017 – I was there’, says the reviewer of service with the British magazine NME. There we shut ourselves wholeheartedly to. Who allowed himself to be enticed into the whimsical universe of Oxford’s Finest, where melody and dissonance systematically against each other aanschuurden, I experienced things that are barely words to summarize. Radiohead gave a in all respects titillating concert where so much magic to see that the competition is inattentive wegvaagde. They were operating Outside of Category. And there is not open to debat.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN

It was as if Frank Zappa had risen from the dead, a metalgitaar bore and the public of pogo-pogo-pogo left to do. It beeped, the scouring, it was: Serj Tankian and co. immediately Rock Werchter flat with nothing but silly metal.

ARCADE FIRE

It was sometimes a bit carnivalesque, how the Canadian indierockgezelschap around the married couple Win Butler and Régine Chassagne on the stage hopped, but musically, it was everything wow. With Arcade Fire is a new Savior of the Headliners emerged. Hooray!

THURSTON MOORE GROUP

Frank Deboosere had failed to warn about this, but as soon as Thurston Moore and his band in The Barn on the stage appeared, raised a storm which was only an hour later. The three gentlemen and lady, played stunningly against each other, brought melodies and tegenmelodieën in contention, counterden noise-eruptions with pastoral motives, goochelden with feedback and showed a healthy free-jazzattitude. The spectators were willing to participate in the trip and came to the same conclusion as we: adventure time is the best time of the day and Moore remains on his 58th the coolest guitarist of his generation.

LORDE

On the just-published Melodrama did the New Zealand Lorde little less than her status of ‘future of music’ – not our words but those of David Bowie’s late – confirm. And in Werchter? There was a volgestouwde Barn her to wait. And everyone praised the Lorde. .

ROYAL BLOOD

Well, they are just the two of you, and their musical formula has its limitations, but the stonerrockers of Royal Blood put so much effort and enthusiasm to the day that they are with minimal resources (bass, drums and vocals), nevertheless the maximum effect managed to sort. Singer-bassist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher bewandelden the shortest path between Queens of the Stone Age and Muse and who their crushing set at Werchter experienced, was indeed tuitende ears, bruises and a few contusions. Because this was not just a concert, it was a true battle.

BENJAMIN CLEMENTINE

The Ghanaian Londoner will indeed be the prize for the most bizarre concert during the most recent edition of Rock Werchter. The man had not only an eccentric voice, somewhere between Antony Hegarty and Nina Simone, he dared also committed outside the lines colors and came to an equally unlikely and challenging stylistic hybrid in which church music, opera, Broadwaymusical and drum & bass high-spirited against each other opbotsten. Or how you as an artist, imploringly out of the corner can come up and yet elusive.

SOULWAX

Everything is scraped, collided, striemde and bliepte during the performance of Soulwax. The Dewaeles brought three drummers in contention and caused a crushing energy discharge which also in the audience for an unprecedented adrenalinerush made. Soulwax succeeded, with an almost purely electronic means and with the dynamics of a DJ set is still a rock’n’ roll feeling. And as demonstrated in the Ghent-based company, for the umpteenth time how a small country can be big.

PROPHETS OF RAGE

Questions they did, the hip – hop and metalprofeten of Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill. If Prophets of Rage took them to the genuine classics of their mother groups and primary, and gave this a concert to ‘fuck you’ to say.

FIREWORKS

It was first time, good times at Rock Werchter for Jergan Callebaut, Thieu Seynaeve and new-fangled ( Salem Khazali.Fireworks played a set full of electro – sometimes floating, sometimes droning, but always with a beating heart, and he let the audience in Klub C at noon to party like it was midnight.
