Drone, fighter jets, high-speed attack aircraft, artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence, lasers, electronic warfare, and sensors are woven into the main body of the aircraft, in all areas of today’s technology exploration for air force, as it will be an early prototype for a new, 6th-Generation fighter to emerge in the 2030s and 2040s.

Although the initiative, called Next Generation Air Dominance(NGAD), is mostly conceptual, for many years, Air Force officials say that the current “prototype” and “demonstration” will inform which technologies will have the authority to invest in the future.

“We did an analysis of the alternatives, and our acquisition team will work to meet the requirements. We are pretty deep into playing around with the hardware and software technologies that will help us in the control and exploitation of air power in the future,” Gen. James Holmes, the Commander of Air Combat Command, told reporters at the Association of the air force’s Air, Space and Cyber Conference.

As a part of the progress of the program, according to the air force Acquisition Executive William Roper, is the result of new forms of digital technology.

“I’ve got six months of our leadership in the industry, and the NGAD team is on the lookout for examples of applied digital engineering. I am very impressed with what they’ve done,” Roper.

The digital technology is that, as Roper points out, takes what you might call a is a two-fold benefit. The set of weapons the developers to evaluate technologies, materials, configurations, and models of aircraft, without the need of all of them, — while, paradoxically, allowing the contractors to “bend the metal” and begin with the construction of the prototype is earlier than would otherwise be possible.

“The reward is greater than the risk,” Roper said, speaking about the need for “something else”, and striving for a newer acquisition methods, which can sometimes result in a prototype earlier in the process than the traditional process, usually goes.

The Air Force Research Laboratory, has been working with the acquisition community in the digital technologies, are often studied by means of modeling and simulation, and for a number of years.

“Digital technology is an exciting field, and the ability to speed up the moving of the things from the top level of the science and technology system, and the integration of the concepts into an operational campaign model,” Tim Sakulich, Executive Lead for the Implementation of the air force S&T Strategy, and the Air Force Research Laboratory for Materials and Production, told the Warrior in a recent interview.

Currently working on a futuristic 6th generation fighter to fly, in addition to the improved F-35s, including the development of a stealthy drone fighters, hypersonic flight, lasers, and new precision weapons, and advanced AI will be able to organize targeted information, in milliseconds.

While all of these things are, of course, the most important parts of the equation, both the Air Force and Penetrating Counter-Air/NGAD program is also aimed at information exchange as a key element of the future of war. Such an approach is, to look beyond the isolated systems and the weapons themselves, it includes a comprehensive “networked” to fight in the war, the platforms are active if the “nodes” in a larger combat system weapons and sensors to work together in real-time.

“With this approach, there is a view of the military operations in the territory of a holistic view of the elements of an info-shooter-effector complex. This will require you to have a lot more to it than that, in the design of the next-generation fighter jets, then see how fast and how far it can go, and what are the numbers of the weapons you can carry,” Ret. Lt.-Gen. David Deptula, a former planner for the U.S. air attacks in Operation Desert Storm and the current Dean of The Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies , said the Warrior Base in a recent interview.

The NGAD program, which traces its history to the Air Force’s Superiority in the Air By 2030 in the Flight Plan,” provides for the possibility of a “family of choice.”

Holmes pointed out that this study has begun to investigate the more than 650 ideas for a 6th Gen to fight against it, then they have been reduced to only a few of them.

Directed by the air force Chief of Staff, the service, weapons, people and the research I have been working in the Company, the Possibility of co-operation (ECCT) teams are designed for the pursuit of the next generation of air superiority.

“We are moving toward a future in which planes are to be seen not only as elements on their own, but as a system of information-sites – sensor-game – effectors. It’s going to be about the creation of a system of systems that is self-forming and self-healing with a greater degree of consciousness than that of one of the opponent’s pieces, and a much higher level of security,” Deputla he said.

Northrop Grumman’s and Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works and Boeing’s Phantom Works, all of them, among a handful of industry developers are already working on a prototype of a 6th Generation aircraft, and advanced technology, has been designed to align with the major elements of the Air Force’s vision. The air force itself has not yet decided on a specific platform or a fixed set of new technologies has been rapid over the conceptual realm in the active exploration of the weapons, sensors, technology and networking.

“There are, perhaps, two or three of the companies that are building high-performance tactical aircraft,” Roper said.

The next generation in stealth technology-and is, of course, is also a major focus of the engineering equation. Later, radar-absorbing coating materials, and the improved IR-suppressants, or thermal signature management developed a sixth sense that he is the configurations and noise reduction technologies provide a window into the current areas of focus. In 2013, an Essay of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Science and Technology Committee, examines the evolution of advanced heat reduction technology that is built into the “skin” of the aircraft.

“For low-observable, multiple spectra, and advanced skins for the managing of a plane distribution of heat, the foil, radar, infra-red and thermal detection systems. These skins can do so by moving or eliminating the distribution of the heat to complete the restructuring of its thermal shape. They can also warm up or cool down all the components of a plane surface of a perfect match with the surrounding atmosphere, so that it is virtually impossible to detect,” the report, titled “The Future of combat aircraft: Towards a 6th Generation Aircraft,” says.

The Air Force’s B-21 Is More, a new stealth bomber and is expected to appear in the mid-2020’s, and is said by its developers to be equipped with a new generation of stealth, but very little information is available. The development of the engines is yet another great leap forward in technological focus, according to a NATO Parliamentary Assembly report. With the emerging Variable cycle Engines,” with the introduction of a third flow of air into an engine, which can be controlled by the pilot, the essay will explain. The new engines are reportedly flocking to raise an aircraft to achieve fuel efficiency and performance.

“It is by the opening or closing of the third air-flow, the pilot can adjust the fuel intake of the jet engine, and the optimization of the performance,” the report said.

The fighter jet launched a laser to the weapons, is expected to be operational by the middle of 2020, there is, of course, a part of the planning for the 6th Generation fighter. (for a Warrior Base on the Report, the Fighter Jet Launched a Laser-weapon – CLICK HERE).

Targeting and sensor technology, combined with advanced guidance systems, is that of the ships, fighter jets, and land assets will no longer be able to rely on an already existing threat in the envelope. Simply put, all US military systems will become more and more vulnerable, as enemies, and the acquisition of more drones, a high-speed fighter jets and long-range precision weapons, all are enabled by COMPUTER-enhanced long-range sensors, and a focus on technology. This includes the emergence of sophisticated enemy combat aircraft, ships, missiles and weapons, such as land-based anti-ship missiles, further reducing the need for the information, and the control of the consciousness to the conduct of war.

The rate of progress in computer processing speeds, miniaturization, and AI promise to have something new to aerial combat. The algorithms will be able to gather, compile and organise the RETRIEVAL of the data, and perform real-time analytics will be more likely to target an attack on the systems of the combatants. The AI-enabled, real-time analytics, for example, bring an opportunity to compare the model information from large databases, the relevant data are given in milliseconds.

Information dominance; for this reason, among others, to enable a jet fighter to both attack and also act as an antenna, IS the hub. That will be a part of a fragmented, yet interrelated control of the sensor network, the fighter can bring the fight to the relevant information of the air assets, ground-based weapons, command-and-control centers, Marine vessels, and satellites.

If it is a ship, ground or air commander, it is an opportunity to see whether or not the learning of an incoming attack, at a greater distance, he or she will, of course, is much better positioned to defend it. Maybe it is, for example, a medium-range ballistic missile attack is in the air, and the approach of the land-based artillery formations, or a part of Carrier Strike Group – and what would a Commander do? Should the attack be met with in-ground interceptor, jam-packed with electronic warfare technology, and hit it with a laser or hit in a different way. As a fighter, which is configured as an antenna node in a bigger, interlinked fight network, the network is able to detect the impending attack earlier on in the process? From beyond the horizon? It may be that the jet can be positioned to intercept or attempt to disassemble the approaching missile, or at the very least, provide early warning to get the guns out to the target audience. In this case, more time means more opportunities to be informed of the commander’s decision cycle.

In reference to the new tactical and complex as a “combat cloud,” Deptula called for, for example, an aircraft such as the F-35 may be the ” cue ” or alert of an Aegis Navy Cruiser on an incoming attack, and, therefore, the ship-based radar, fire control, and interceptor weapons, and a much-improved envelope with that one attack. For example, for a web-related attack, the target, and the information of the nodes, it may be better for her to have a node that is to be destroyed, and the “sensor-to-shooter” time, and can be massively speeded up.

“For the opposition, this is a hard concept for you to fall,” Deptula said.

Time is of the essence when it comes to air-attack, air-to-air warfare, and any form of air-to-surface-area co-ordination. Getting ahead, or in an enemy’s “decision cycle” is a phenomenon long described by the sky warriors, and the completion of the OODA loop – Observation, Orientation, Decision, Action faster than the enemy to win a combat. This is also one of the reasons why hypersonic weapons are being sought and tested with such a power by the US and its major rivals. Find a weapon, drone, or an air asset of any type, travel at five times the speed of sound, it presents a very serious “time out” challenge when it comes to defending attacks.

While the concept of a “manned” hypersonic flight is considered to be very far away, hypersonic weapons will be followed up by a hypersonic drones, closer to operational status. This will have a major impact on the Air Force and Pervasiveness of the Counter-Air program, and as a 6th generation aircraft should be able to, for example, the ability to fire air-launched, hypersonic weapons, and start very fast attack drones. It goes without saying that the faster an attack is, or IS the mission in a high threat or critical areas, the greater the threat and the window can be reduced. (For a Warrior Base on the report, the Air Force needs to accelerate to hypersonic weapons, CLICK HERE.)

It is interesting that the estimated speed and range of the enemy’s weapons and sensors will continue to motivate the ongoing debate on the question of “baiting” itself may be out of date. The identification of, and it is possible to destroy the enemy aircraft before they see it, it is an important starting point to inform on the F-35 strategy. While the stealth fighter is designed to be a dogfight, and the Electro-Optical Targeting System and Distributed Aperture System has been specially designed to provide early detection of enemy forces. The concept is very simple: to destroy an enemy before they are even seen as possible, and to prevent the enemy coming close enough to require an air battle.
