The 19-year-old bride defends marriage to 62-year-old man

Just a few weeks after her one-year wedding anniversary, 19-year-old Samantha Simpson spoke with the media for the first time about her relationship with her 62-year-old man, JR.

Hopeless romantics would probably agree that love knows no age, but a couple with 43 years of difference between them to say that they are simply “exhausted” by the criticism and sceptic seems to them almost on a daily basis.

Just a few weeks after her one-year wedding anniversary, 19-year-old Samantha Simpson spoke with the media for the first time about her relationship with her 62-year-old man, JR.

Although the two are currently living happily married bliss in their newly purchased home in Wichita, Kan., Samantha says that she is still battered by “daily abuse” of strangers, who often mistake the couple for a granddaughter and grandfather, The Sun reports.

“It’s even worse when people call JR a ‘child snatcher’ or a ‘paedophile’ if they see us hold hands or kiss in public,” Samantha, a student, told The Sun. “There is not a moment when we are out and about that someone doesn’t make a comment about our relationship, and it’s just tiring.

“We have enough of a hard time with family and friends not accepting our relationship, that when strangers do it, it is just too much,” she continued. “We want people to realize that we are happily married and serious about our relationship and other people are not allowed to discriminate against us in such a way.”

According to the outlet, Samantha first met JR through mutual friends at the age of 18 years, and she was immediately dazzled by his maturity and type of behaviour.

“When I saw JR, I was automatically drawn to how good he was and the fact that he was a gentleman,” the Arkansas native said. “He was very well spoken when we met, and also when we would talk on the phone and sms, he was just something I had never found in a man before.”

“I’ve dated men closer to my age, but they are very immature and have not known how to treat their partner,” the newlywed continued. “With JR is completely different — he is so grown-up and treats me like a queen, there is nothing I would change about him or our relationship.”

After celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary on Jan. 8, the couple has now set their sights on starting a family – and say that the timing couldn’t be better.

“We are currently trying to get pregnant as we feel that the time is ripe — we have just got married and we have our own place, so why would we not?” Samantha said.

“We hope that by sharing the story of our relationship, people will realize that it is not a joke and we are very serious about each other, despite our age difference and appearance,” Samantha thought.
