A Texas police officer has been charged in the shooting death of an officer is accused of stealing a truck in a suburb of Dallas, earlier this month.

Farmers Branch, Officer Michael Dunn in Wednesday night to the Seagoville police department, and was arraigned on a murder charge in the killing of Juan Moreno, 35, officials said.

“This sends a message that public officials do not have the right to kill anyone, and that the officers, in order to comply with the rule of law,” said Carlos Quintanilla, a spokesman for the Moreno family.

Dunn, 43, was released on a $150,000 bond shortly after he was taken into custody.

The truck Moreno was driving was reported stolen out of the Dallas suburb of Irving, the researchers said. On June 12, Mitchell saw a vehicle in Farmers Branch and follow-up.

The 13-year department veteran, allegedly opened fire on Moreno as he was driving away from a shopping mall parking lot, police said. The Surveillance video appears to show Dunn to fly out to the driver’s side of the vehicle, if it is a turn around in his police SUV.

He was placed on an administrative leave of absence. An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

The Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot, said the charges against Dunn, it shows “the system can get the job done quickly, fairly, and efficiently.”
