BEAUMONT, Texas – Federal authorities say a 40-year-old war veteran has been arrested in connection with two explosives found in southeastern Texas in the past few weeks.
A probable cause affidavit says investigators found bomb parts and mailing materials associated Jonathan Matthew Torres the devices during the execution of a search warrant Thursday at his Beaumont home. Torres was Thursday arrested.
A device exploded May 10, outside an Episcopal church, shattering windows and causing other damage. No one was injured.
Another device that did not explode was found April 26, outside a Starbucks.
Torres is charged with using an explosive to cause damage to property, in the possession of a non-destructive device and sending a threatening communication. He is scheduled to appear in court May 29. If convicted, Torres faces up to 20 years in prison.
