Tesla’s Musk, Alibaba’s Ma talk, Shanghai tech event this week

SHANGHAI (Reuters) – Tesla Inc. (TSLA.D) CEO, Elon Musk, and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (BABA).(N) chairman, Jack Ma, will be speaking at a conference on artificial intelligence (AI), to be held this week in Shanghai, an Alibaba spokeswoman said on Monday.

The two entrepreneurs have a conversation in front of an audience on August 29, in the World of Artificial Intelligence Conference, which runs August 29-August 31, the president said.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Musk confirmed his participation at the conference earlier this month. On Twitter, he also said that he plans to launch a China unit, and The Boring Company, its subterranean transportation business, in the same China trip.

The talk will be in the middle of an intensification of the war on trade, and technology between the United States and China.

The US President, Donald Trump, has announced on Friday an additional excise tax on the approximately $550 billion in targeted Chinese goods, and hours after China unveiled one of the prices to be $75 billion worth of U.S. goods.

Tesla is one of the many high-profile American companies will be affected by the economy. The company is engaged in the construction of the plant for its vehicles in china.

At the beginning of 2018, Musk messaged ace up its sleeve with the public on Twitter to complain about China’s 25% tariff on imported cars to enter the market.

Jack Ma has been an outspoken critic of the state. At the end of last year, the China International Import Expo exhibition in Shanghai, the e-commerce entrepreneur, which is called the conflict “the most stupid thing in the world.

Ma is set to formally step down from his position as the chairman of Alibaba at the end of September.
