BEIJING (Reuters) – Tesla, Inc., is seeking approval from the Chinese regulators to establish a new Chinese-made Model of a 3-variant, a government document shows.
A variant would be to have a longer driving range, a source familiar with the matter said.
If it is today’s China Model, (3), which is a standard driving range of more than 400km, it could be a rear wheel drive car, the source said, who wasn’t authorized to speak about the matter and declined to be identified.
Tesla, which began delivering the cars in December, from $2 billion in a Shanghai factory, to sell a wider range of imported Model 3s with the all-wheel drive, located in China.
The electric-car maker will start production in Shanghai on Monday, after the government has been closed for a long holiday, which was put in place as a result of the new corona virus disease outbreak.
