‘Terror threat in the Netherlands in years not been so great’
The risk of a terrorist attack in the Netherlands has increased in recent years. That says, the boss of the General Intelligence and Security service (AIVD), Rob Bertholee, Saturday, in an interview with the Volkskrant.
To elaborate on the nature of the threat the AIVD boss, however, not because the intelligence would destroy can do. “Frustrating”, according to Bertholee.
“The threat has never been so great since I came here five years ago, the head of the department was,” he says in the interview . “Since the end of 2012, I saw the number of uitreizigers increase. Now there are 260. If you IS, are you involved in violence, that goes for everyone. Look at the recent arrest of women in Paris. Also they are prepared to commit attacks,” the AIVD boss.
The threat is, according to him, plural. Traumatised returnees, returnees who deliberately blend in with the community in order to save and people who are using social media, be inspired, are all a risk.
For the battle better able to go Bertholee that his service’s encryption of chatapplicaties always can undo. France and Germany want the encryption going to reduce, the Dutch government has not, because those millions of users, safety features.
That the privacy in the proceedings can, according to Bertholee but to be taken. “Then you must accept that your safety is returned. Then you have to wonder how much security is privacy worth to you?”
The AIVD boss to say that protection of privacy is also important, “but people would be that privacy is the highest goal that are just as enthusiastic to pursue if they are a victim of an attack? If they know that they have allowed such a thing happened?”
