NASHVILLE, Tennessee. – An old parish priest was sent back to Tennessee to face the charges that he abused several children during his time in the cause of a Nashville church.
Media reports say that Matthew Dennis Patterson was arrested March 8 by Nashville police in Pennsylvania, where he moved after leaving the Tennessee church in September last year.
Patterson was extradited to Nashville on Friday.
He served as pastor of Nolensville Road Baptist Church. After his resignation, authorities say that the members of the church went to the police with complaints about his requests to “engage in foreign activities” with children.
According to a police statement, the children told adult members of the church that Patterson had asked them to sit on his face and abdomen, sometimes in their underwear.
Patterson was indicted on eight counts of aggravated sexual battery. The police say each count is linked to a different child.
