“Teenagers with good band parents begin later sex
Young adults who have a good relationship with their parents, start at a later age to have sex than young people who do not have a comparable band. Especially the relationship with mothers is important for the sexual development of daughters.
Erasmus MC studied the data of more than 3,000 young people aged 12 to 16 years from the Jeugdmonitor of GGD Rotterdam-Rijnmond. The young people and their parents, were for two years followed.
The young people who later in life started to have intercourse, according to the research a healthier sexual development, and reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases (stds) and teenage pregnancies.
“A possible explanation is that they have more experience gained with, for example, friendships and intimacy but are also better informed of the risks of unsafe sex,” says researcher Raquel Nogueira Avelar e Silva, of the department of public Health of the Erasmus MC.
Although the band girls is very important it turned out, was that in boys is less the case. The researchers explain that because daughters may be more influenced by their mothers, and spend more time with their mothers. In addition, Dutch mothers more hours for their children than fathers and talk more about sexuality with their daughters.
