Teen text helps unravel the horrifying N. Carolina crime

STATESVILLE, N. C. – A text message to a friend led rescuers to a teenager being held captive in the North Carolina house, where her mother was killed.

Authorities say Gary Love loved the 14-year-old girl trapped for days and killed her mother in a heinous crime appeared earlier this week, when the girl was rescued Monday. Love is from Ohio, but in North Carolina a few months.

The sheriff announced new charges against him Wednesday, including felony sex offenses with a child, kidnapping and murder of a woman. He had already been charged with the murder of the mother’s death.

The friend who notified authorities, the 13-year-old Savannah Evans, told WSOC-TV that she woke up Monday to a text message that asked her to call 911 to help.
