Teacher accused of firing gun at school released from prison

DALTON, Georgia. – A Georgia teacher accused of firing a gun in class has been released from prison on a $10,000 bond for psychiatric evaluation and treatment.

The Daily Citizen-News 53-year-old Jesse Randal Davidson was released from prison in Whitfield County on bond Thursday afternoon. District Attorney Bert Poston, says Davidson remains in custody in a psychiatric institution instead of in prison.

Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier says Davidson fired a snub-nosed .38-caliber revolver out of his classroom window on the Dalton High School on Feb. 28. Dalton Public Schools spokeswoman Pat Holloway tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution of the social studies, the teacher’s contract will not be renewed for the following year.

Davidson faces six charges including aggravated assault. Messages from the Citizen-News links for Davidson’s lawyer, Richard Murray, were not returned Thursday afternoon.
