There are more than 4 billion bits of microplastic, floating in Tampa Bay, according to a new study.
The researchers collected samples of the water and the sentiment is from the Tampa Bay area in the course of more than a year, and it was found to be an average of, one particle of microplastic per litre — which led to the calculation that the whole of the bay, and contains at least 4 billion bodies.

“This is a very important study is the first to our region and to show the extent of the problem,” said Henry Alegria, an environmental scientist at the University of South Florida St. St. Petersburg, russia and is co-author of the study. “It also provides a vital baseline on the total numbers and distribution. It is important for the management to plan ahead in order to see whether or not the action to be taken and policies to be effective in reducing the level of these particles in the environment.”
So, that can be defined as small pieces of plastic that are 5 millimetres long or less, have been discovered in a range of remote locations including the Arctic region. They can be obtained from larger pieces of plastic which are in part broken down, it is the most typical source in the Tampa Bay study was made of the fibers from fishing lines, nets and synthetic clothes.
The researchers believe that it is more than 4 billion bits of microplastic in the Tampa Bay, Florida. Above: a close-up of the so, along with the Italian Schiavonea beach, carried in by the Ionian sea during the last sea-day.
“Very little is known about how many of so, who, and the full impact of these particles on marine life,” said Kinsley McEachern, the author of the study, and a recent Environmental Science and Policy graduate student at USF St. The saint-Petersburg. “However, the new research offers a wide range of effects on the marine ecosystems of the great accumulation of micro plastics from their products.”
Although the results of the study seem to be substantial and, perhaps, even shocking, to the researchers say their estimates may be conservative because of their collection to the bay, encountered several feet below the surface of the water, likey is missing, the more buoyant so.

“These plastics will remain in the bay area, the gulf and the atlantic ocean, more than life, and while we make the most use of plastic bags and bottles, for less than an hour,” said David Hastings, lead researcher of the study, with a Courtesy Professor at the USF College of Marine Science, in a statement. While it might be tempting to clean up the mess, because it is not possible to remove these particulates from the water column or separate it from the sediment.”

McEachern adds: “it is Only by the removal of the sources of plastic and microplastic particles, we are able to successfully decrease the potential risks of plastics in the marine environment.”
