Suspect in teen shooting killed in North Carolina shooting

SANFORD, N. C. – Police in North Carolina have shot and killed a suspect in the wounding of a teenager.

News channels reported Sanford officers were called to a home around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and found 41-year-old Juan Carlos Romero with a gun. The police said Romero was shot at the three officers, and they returned fire, killing him.

A press release says officers determined Romero had shot and injured a 19-year-old woman in stable condition Wednesday in a hospital in Chapel Hill.

The names and races of the officers involved were not immediately released. They are placed on leave while the State Bureau of Investigation investigates the shooting.

A police spokesman did not immediately return messages Wednesday seeking more information.

Sanford is about 35 miles (55 kilometers) southwest of Raleigh.
