Suspect in Portland light rail massacre to appear in court

PORTLAND, Ore. – The man police say fatally two other men who tried to protect young women from an anti-Muslim rant on a light-rail train makes his first appearance in Portland, Oregon, in the courtroom.

Jeremy Joseph Christian, 35, was a arraigned on two counts of felony aggravated murder and other charges. Monday afternoon.

The attack happened on Friday, the first day of Ramadan, the holiest time of the year for the Muslims. The authorities say that Christian began verbal abuse of two young women, one of whom is wearing a hijab.
