‘Survivors of cardiac arrest have better helped with extra vitamin C”
Researchers from the VUmc in Amsterdam and hope to survivors of cardiac arrest can help them better with extra vitamin C.
Of those who have a cardiac arrest in the first instance, survive, death, each week there are still twelve in the hospital. The researchers therefore want to “very quickly” after a cardiac arrest, a high dose of vitamin C directly into the bloodstream administration. They think mortality, organ damage, and duration of therapy as “fast” to be able to reduce.
“During a cardiac arrest there is no oxygen to the brain and other organs”, explains the medical center. “That caused damage. By a successful resuscitation is the circulation going again. This is good, but at the same time, also for the formation of so-called oxygen radicals. Which provide extra damage. Vitamin C reduces the production of oxygen radicals and can damage prevent.”
Now that the capabilities of the is also cheap and safe – vitamin C is further examined, along with six other hospitals.
