Surinamese court establishes Dutch terreurverdachte free

The judge in Suriname has Nasr I., one of the two brothers suspected of involvement in terrorism, Friday freedom. The judge gave no reason for the release of the terreurverdachte.

His brother Raoul A. should be in prison remain. The brothers have the Dutch nationality. The court will designate on 14 June verdict in the case.

The two brothers were fixed since July of 2017. The Public Prosecutor (OM) demanded earlier this year, respectively six and four years imprisonment against A. I.

According to the prosecutor, have the brothers was guilty of participation in a terrorist organisation, financing terrorism, recruiting for the armed struggle in Syria and in possession of ammunition.

A lot of evidence coming out of instant messaging

The officer of justice has for a large part of the evidence, based on many instant messages on the phones of I. and A. are found. It was found that especially A. are often very extremely expressed. According to A. it has TO be very selectively extracted from the chats.

A. has admitted that he has a short period under the spell of Islamic State (IS) has been, but that, after a few months, all other thoughts came out and was never radicalised.
