Supporting role Thorsdottir, Schmidt and Deurloo in meerkampfinale european CHAMPIONSHIPS artistic gymnastics
Eythora Thorsdottir, Casimir Schmidt and Bart Deurloo have Friday in the meerkampfinale at the European championships gymnastics in the Romanian Cluj no role to play in the battle for the medals.
The 18-year-old Thorsdottir wasted her chances for a high overall classification by costly errors on the devices, bridge and bar.
More than the twelfth place was not for Thorsdottir, who last year as a ninth ended up at the Olympic Games in Rio. The tournament is not over for the couple, because they come later in action in the finals on the beam and on the floor.
Tisha Volleman, of whom much less was expected, ended even above Thorsdottir. The 17-year-old Brabant finished eleventh, with a slightly higher score than her compatriot.
The European title went for the first time in history to a British. Elissa Downie picked up the gold medal.
Schmidt came to the men after six devices out of a score of 80,998. So he was eleventh. Deurloo closed the round with a score of 79,998: fourteenth.
The European title went to the Oekraïner Oleg Vernjajev, which in the final device due to the required score (14,000) obtained for the gold. Vernjajev, the number two at the Olympics, had a total score of 85,866.
The silver was to the neck of the Rus Artur Dalalojan (85,498) hung. Bronze was there for the British debutant James Hall: 84,664.
Deurloo, and Schmidt had a good start with respectively 13,900 to voltige and 13,566 on rings, not the devices of which both must have it. Schmidt continued to be the most regular of the two, where Deurloo on the final floor (11,566) a good ranking out of the hands gave.
On the rack he just a handsome exercise with five vluchtelementen, four with a double salto. It was rewarded with a somewhat disappointing 13,566. Sunday Deurloo on the same device in the finale.
