The Olympique Marseille midfielder Kevin Strootman has André Villas-Boas on Tuesday appointed as the new trainer. The Portuguese had, since his departure from the Chinese Shanghai SIPG in november 2017 no job anymore.
The 41-year-old Villas-Boas signs a contract for two seasons with Olympique Marseille, reports the French club on his site.
The former coach of FC Porto, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Zenit St. Petersburg is the successor of Rudi Garcia, who since October, 2016 sat on the sofa with Olympique Marseille and the team last season to fifth place in Ligue 1 led.
“André Villas-Boas is still young, but already a very experienced trainer”, says after Jacques-Henri Eyraud. “He knows exactly what is needed at the highest level. We expect this selection to put new life into can blow.”
Strootman stepped last year at the intercession of Garcia for 25 million euros from AS Roma to Marseille. The 29-year-old Dutchman knew the French trainer still from their joint time at Roma.
The midfielder has played this season, 28 league games, but would, according to French media after the departure of Garcia should fear that there is no longer a place for him in Marseille.
