Street Fighter-update made pcs vulnerable to malware

An update for fighting game Street Fighter 5 installed a rootkit on pc’s, allowing the game full access to the computer system.

Discovered that visitors of the online forum Reddit.

A rootkit is a software package that access knows how to access protected parts of a computer.

The software in question in Street Fighter was unsecured. This was not only the game system access, but could malware, in theory, take advantage of this to infect a computer.

According to gameontwikkelaar Capcom was the rootkit used to cheats to detect. By itself deep in the system to take root, there was no internet connection is required in order to prevent cheating.

The update is now withdrawn. A new update includes other improvements in the game, without the rootkit.
