The ultimate bad-weather weapon is bad news for bad guys
Defense specialist Allison Barrie has a look at the new StormBreaker, a missile which can search for targets in spite of the bad weather conditions in the battle space. Enemies of the United States will never be able to use bad weather to take shelter for the U.S. military.
Enemies of the United States will never be able to use bad weather to hide again.
StormBreaker is a new bomb that can search for targets in spite of the bad weather in the battlespace.
Not only the reign over all-weather, round-the-clock…it can chase the bad guys as they are on the road or try to escape in vehicles.
This U. S. Air Force program, with the American fighters of the crucial advantage of the ability to precisely strike at others not. Made by Raytheon, the bomb is fired from fighter jets, thousands of miles high in the air and penetrates to the bad weather, the attack of moving and stationary targets on the ground.
The F-15E Strike Eagles are the first to receive the revolutionary bomb. The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and the F/A-18E/F Super Hornets are in addition to armed with these bad boys.

To receive the moniker StormBreaker, this bomb is used to go through the boring, bland title of the Small Diameter Bomb Increment II SDB II.

It is a any time, day or night, all-weather bomb – and rips away the cover of the weather, the advantage of the AMERICAN opponents.
As always, the last Farnborough Airshow in the uk was quite a spectacle with countries and aviation companies will showcase their latest and best in the sky and on the ground. But perhaps the most exciting news to come out of the annual event was something that was unseen – news that StormBreaker has recently moved to the operational readiness of the test. This means an important step closer to the USAF’s fighter jets will be armed with this mighty weapon.
How does it look?
For this scale of power, you would expect that it is huge in size. But this remarkable bomb weighs just over 200 pounds. It is 70 inches long and only seven inches in diameter. Comparable in size with that nice floating noodle toys found in pools, ponds and surf all in the USA
When the weapons are great, this can mean more fighters are needed to ensure the target is destroyed. StormBreakers are on the small side so a jet plane can carry more of them than a larger weapon. The less fighter jets deployed against the same target, the less pilots in danger.
ARMY OF THE NEW MACHINE GUN WILL BLOW UP LIKE BATTLE TANKS
The more distance there is between US troops and the enemy as the striking of a target, the better. This bomb can be launched from more than 40 miles away, but still strike exactly.

Why is it bad again difficult?
Bad weather is an age-old method of healing and one that AMERICAN opponents can use to hide from air attacks – but not anymore.
Sandstorms, heavy rain, snow, weather conditions that may forms of targeting challenges.
Also in combat conditions, “battlefield obscurants” as a thick dust kicked up by helicopters and vehicles can also be used to the enemy’s advantage. Explosions are also very common in the combat zone, and filling the air with dust and dirt, making visibility poor at best.
StormBreaker takes the bad weather, concealment of the advantage away from opponents and convert it to a benefit for the AMERICAN army. With this bomb, the US can strike in the circumstances of the other countries do not.

How does chasing the bad guys?
When visibility is limited, StormBreaker offers a powerful solution – an ultra-sophisticated viewfinder.
THIS ORANGE, LUXURY BODY ARMOR MATERIAL CAN SAVE LIVES
The special viewfinder integrated in the weapon shares targeting data by the three modes of attack.
This allows the weapon to be seemingly unstoppable. It allows the bomb to a precise stop, regardless of the weather conditions and regardless of the amount of light. It also makes it possible to do this against both fixed and moving targets.

There are three modes: millimeter-wave radar, imaging infrared and semi-active laser.
The millimeter wave radar helps the weapon to detect and track targets due to the unfavourable weather conditions. The imaging infrared provides an improved victim of discrimination.
The tracking of an airborne laser pointer from the ground or an aircraft, the weapon uses semi-active laser.
How does it attack?
StormBreaker attack in three ways: normal, laser-illuminated, and coordinate attack.
TANK-KILLING ROBOT UNVEILED
To engage moving targets in bad weather, StormBreaker makes use of the millimeter wave radar and IR for terminal guidance.
With the laser illuminated attack mode, the weapon will use the laser spot tracker to store it accurately.
If StormBreaker is used against a fixed or stationary target, then the weapon can use the coordinates with the coordinate of the attack mode.
The bomb is equipped with two-way datalink communication. This allows the weapon to receive target updates.
Controllers (or on the ground or in the air) can send updates while the bomb in mid-flight, if necessary. For example, if the target has moved, then the controllers, you can use the bomb new coordinates mid flight and StormBreaker can customize with the help of tis GPS/INS system to guide in the way to the new location.

When will StormBreakers reign over the weather?
Now that the operational test phase is started, StormBreakers need the armament of AMERICAN fighters of the fleet in the near term.
Raytheon is already integrated into the bombs on the F-15E Strike Eagle. The U.S. air force and Navy have begun integration to more devices. The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter may be performed with the StormBreakers, to achieve the initial operating capability by 2022 and the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet in about 2 years.
