A hot air balloon reported stolen from Indiana was found by the police in Florida after it was spotted on one of the hot air balloon festival, police said.

A weekend hot air balloon festival in Florida featured more than just the beautiful sight of the flame-powered flight, when the police allegedly discovered a balloon that had been stolen out of the almost 900 km away.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that the balloon, which is multicoloured with a grid pattern, was found on Saturday, the delegates were checking balloons at The Villages, Hot Air Balloon Festival is held at the Florida Horse Park.
“You’re going to think we are full of ‘hot air’ if you read this, but for the first time in 175 years, we have recovered from a stolen hot-air balloon!” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said they received a message from the Bloomington Police Department that the balloon was stolen out of their jurisdiction and was spotted at the festival.

The owner of the balloon, said that he just wanted his property back, and wanted not to report the incident, police said. It is not clear whether the authorities determined who stole the balloon — or why.

The balloon was towed from the festival site, so that it can eventually be returned to the owner in Indiana.
“This just proves that you never know what the MCSO is going to be called to the following,” police said.
