Steijn: “Saw fear and tears in the eyes of players after injury Promes’

Players and coaches of VVV-Venlo were Friday very affected by the heavy injury of Jerold Promes. The defender fell against Heracles Almelo (0-1 loss) after five minutes, with a suspected broken kneecap.

Referee Erwin Blank sent both teams afterwards in the changing rooms, also for the emergency services to give the opportunity to Promes in all the rest of the ambulance in to transfer. After a break of twenty minutes, it was the duel resumed.

VVV-trainer Maurice Steijn saw that his team had difficulty getting the thread to resume. “I saw the terror and the tears with many boys in the eyes,” the coach said on FOX Sports. “It’s one of their buddies, a boy, where they participate in daily training.”

Steijn spoke of a “dramatic evening”. “The injury had an incredible impact on players and staff. If you get one of your players in such a way carried away see, you as a team, however, just as excited.”

“They were all very shocked’

Also attacker Patrick Joosten was done. “Jerold is a big boy, so if that screamed, you know that the good error is”, said the attacker.

“It was intense, we were all shocked. I am also occasionally a long time injured, so you know how it is. This as you wish on anybody.”

Only after peace was Steijn, that OT the diffidence of themselves not impressed. “They have fought hard for what they were worth. We have still a lot of opportunities to win.”

By the defeat remains VVV-Venlo eighth. Heracles climb to place five.
