General director Edwin van der Sar is proud of the new design. “The way the letters Ajax in the stands are processed immediately creates More thinking. I have great memories, and that is true not only for me but for a lot of Players,” said Van der Sar on the website of the club.

According to the ex-goalkeeper is the Arena in recent years more and more of a Ajax-stadium. “That went step-by-step, each with certain adjustments. That are in terms of impact does not compare with this stoelenplan, because the total image of the inside of the stadium change.”

“We expect that it is very beautiful and that our supporters, therefore, from 2018 even more proud on our home.”

Replacing the seats is not the only change of the Arena in the coming years. Last year it was already announced that the tracks on the second ring to widen and also the facade a new look. There is also space for additional lifts, toilets, cateringpunten and escalators.

Henk Markerink, director of the Arena, stresses that the new design in conjunction with Ajax came to be. “We come up with the design to meet a long-cherished supporterswens to the stadium more of an Ajax look and feel,” says Markerink.

“This also fits with the close relationship that we have with the club. Also the view of the Amsterdam Andreaskruizen in the corners of the second ring are in line with our position as one of the most iconic buildings in Amsterdam.”
